Ok, time for a little Communications course that will help you understand the importance of social media applications within business. Sure, many of you already are members of various networking sites; but what if I told you that you can actually conduct business and possibly gain employment by joining a new social media site that can change how you live? Many of the larger corporations have established relationships with various social sites such as Myspace, Facebook, and LinkedIn to promote various services and to generate revenue for the business.
Not to brag or anything, but I have worked for an amazing technology based company called IBM for 3 1/2 years. I have worked in Business Consulting for this company and I am also a prospective Communications major. You may have heard of it, since it's an international company that supports many computer and networking systems worldwide. In all seriousness, IBM has its own personal social networking site called IBM Connections that allow all employees, partners, and clients worldwide to interact amongst each other. IBM Connections allows anyone who takes an interest in connecting within the IBM social network to share pictures, create a blog, and network amongst each other. IBM Connections is a little more formal than your average social "entertainment" sites (i.e. Facebook).
For additional information regarding the features and performance of the IBM Connections tool log onto http://www-01.ibm.com/software/lotus/products/connections/. If you're like myself and do not possess the capability to remember long addresses, the link is listed here within my microblog. Ok viewers until next time!
